Setting refers to the 'where' and 'when' of a story. It usually includes 3 important elements such as place, time and people.

PLACE

This is 'where' a story takes place.

 

1. Lisa's cottage

    - Lisa and her parents live.

2. The Castle​    

    - where the King's live

3. The Tower   

    - where Lisa was locked by the King to        spin the straw into gold

3. The Nursery​

     - where Queen Lisa looked after the            baby and where the strange little      

       man appeared.

4. The Woods

    - where the strange little man lives.

TIME

This is 'when' a story takes place in terms of time, day or season.

 

  • Ex: Medieval era (5th to 15th century)

PEOPLE

This refers to the social context of the story in terms of customs and values.

 

  • Ex: Feudal society, magical creatures, etc.
